Groq, Inc., founded in 2016 by former Google engineers including Jonathan Ross, is an American company specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) hardware and software solutions. Groq's flagship product is the Language Processing Unit (LPU), an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) designed to accelerate AI inference workloads. The LPU features a functionally sliced microarchitecture, interleaving memory units with vector and matrix computation units to enhance execution performance and efficiency. This deterministic, single-core architecture avoids traditional reactive hardware components, allowing precise control over hardware operations.
